Quick Update

Sorry.  If you´ve been keeping up, you´ll notice we haven´t been.  This will just be a short note to let you know we´re alive.  We´ll update with photos and more when we get home.

Since we last wrote, we met up with Patrick and Kimberly in Antigua, and from there traveled to Copán, Honduras to visit the Mayan ruins there.  Amazing!  Then came back into Guatemala to Rio Dulce for a couple of days before heading by boat (3 boats) through driving rain and choppy waters to Belize.  We spent a couple of days in Placencia on the beach.  Highlights: beach, coffee, gelato and a 3-foot iguana that ran for cover into our hotel room.  I had to coax him/her out from under the grilly type thingy behind the refer.

From Placencia we went to Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary.  It was created as a jaguar preserve, and now they have 70-80 jaguars in the park.  No, we didn´t see one.  Highlights: hikes, waterfall swim, 2-hour tube down the river, peccaries(sp), couple o´ birds, and getting to search each other and pull ticks out.  Jane 3 ticks, me 2.

Then to Tobacco Caye.  Google it.  Check it out.  Go there.  200 X 100 meter island, 10 miles from the mainland.  Cabanas over the water.  Snorkeling.  Swimming.  Reading.  Napping.  Three great meals per day.  Nice people.  Garfuna drummers.  One week.  Very happy.

Then to Tikal ruins in Guatemala.  Amazing ruins.  Amazing animals: spider monkeys, coatimundis, tucans, pacas, howler monkeys (just heard them), parrots, lots of cool birds.  I love ruins.  They´re magical places to visit.

We leave today for Flores, Guatemala, then off to decisions unknown toward Guatemala City over the next week, then we fly home next Monday, the 30th.

As I said, we hope to update one more time with photos, but probably after we get home.  It´s been great traveling with Kim and Patrick.  We have similar tastes and travel well together.

Hasta later,
Darrel
